Rural Community Immigration Pilot

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)

Welcoming Skilled Workers to Canada’s Vibrant Rural Communities

Canada’s Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) is an economic immigration program aimed at helping smaller, rural communities attract and retain skilled foreign workers to meet local labor market needs and support regional economic growth.

What is the RNIP?

The RNIP offers a pathway to permanent residency for foreign workers who want to live and work in one of the participating rural communities in Canada. These communities are actively seeking skilled individuals to fill job vacancies and contribute to the social and economic fabric of their regions.

Why Choose the RNIP?

  • Pathway to Permanent Residency

  • Faster processing times compared to other programs

  • Opportunities to settle in friendly, welcoming communities

  • Access to jobs in high-demand sectors like health care, manufacturing, and trades

  • Support from local community organizations to ease the transition

Participating Communities

The pilot includes communities in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia, each with unique industries, lifestyles, and opportunities.

Some participating communities include:

  • Thunder Bay, ON

  • Brandon, MB

  • Vernon, BC

  • Moose Jaw, SK

  • Sudbury, ON

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the RNIP, you must:

  • Have a valid job offer from an employer in a participating community

  • Meet the community-specific requirements

  • Have relevant work experience or graduated from a publicly funded post-secondary institution in the community

  • Meet language, education, and settlement fund requirements

  • Intend to live permanently in the community

How the Process Works

  1. Find a job with an eligible employer in a participating community.

  2. Apply for community recommendation once you receive a job offer.

  3. If recommended, apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency.

  4. Live and work in the community after arrival.

Community Support

Local communities play a key role in welcoming and supporting newcomers through:

  • Orientation programs

  • Language training

  • Job search assistance

  • Family settlement support

Is RNIP Right for You?

The RNIP is ideal for skilled workers looking to settle in smaller, close-knit communities where your work makes a meaningful impact, and your presence helps grow the local economy.
